The Power Behind The Throne

This man is the power behind the Posh throne.

He is the rock to which I cling.

He is the never-sung-loudly-enough hero.

He looks like that, all of the time. ALL the time. Whether he is working or playing, he is always happy, always sunny. On the surface, life is pretty tough on him at the moment. As well as working, he is caring for me, 24 hours a day. He gets up in the morning, cooks me breakfast, makes me tea, and brings it up to bed. He does the shopping, and cooks all the meals. He does the washing up. He ferries me around to appointments, and runs all the errands, mine, his, my mum’s, the business. He works. He gardens. He spends hours a week in volunteer work. He is always eager to help, always willing, always generous. He is incredibly softhearted, loves animals and birds, and has two pet robins that follow him around everywhere, even into the house if he lets them. He is all heart, it takes very little to make him cry, and even less to make him laugh. You should hear his laughter – it is as infectious as a baby’s.

People don’t like Tony. They LOVE him. Truly, I have never known anyone who inspires love like he does. Everywhere he goes, people are drawn to him, and especially the waifs and strays of the world. He is always himself, just as much when talking to a stranger in the street as when talking to a close friend. He is open and genuine, and I think that is what draws people to him. People absolutely adore him.

He loves, loves, loves, his job, and sings the whole time he is dyeing. Tony loves to sing, and sings well. He has no self consciousness, and will be out in the garden, singing at the top of his voice, whilst digging up weeds. He makes me smile, even on days when I can only smile on the inside. He is endlessly loving and supportive and patient and kind – truly, he never runs out of those qualities, however hard things get. When I ask him how he can do so much for me, all of the time, and not get tired or fed up, he gives me a smile that is as open and honest as a child’s, and says, “because I love you SO much!”

All that he needs in return, from me, from anyone, is to be loved as much back. And I do. We do. We all do. We love him back, and then some. You couldn’t not love someone as amazing as Tony is. I’m the luckiest girl in the world, to have him all for my very own.

  1. (sniff) I mentioned the same sentiment on Ravelry — even though I didn’t know a lot of this before (two pet robins follow him around? really? that’s like a Snow White level of goodness, haha), now that I do, it makes perfect sense. His heart and joy and love really do shine through in his work. And so do yours, Dee — everything from the time and care I know you put into your photos, to the way you care for us poor frantic shoppers. You are an incredible team — truly a case of being much, much, much more than the sum of the parts. I adore you both, but most of all, I adore the unit that is you, plural.

  7. Made me think of the poem ‘Late Fragment’ by Raymond Carver:

    ‘And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
    I did.
    And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
    beloved on the earth.’

The love you two have is so precious, long may it last 🙂
