Wow, this was an auspicious date for Posh Yarn! Tonight’s testing of the new shopping cart system went really well, better than I dared hope. There are still things that need fine tuning, but it basically rocked my socks off.

I want to say, a huge, huge thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, to everyone. You’ve been so patient, so supportive, and you turned what could have been a nightmare of stress into pretty good fun, all along. I am thrilled that the new software coped with tonight’s update – I know there are still issues to be worked out, but what we really wanted to know was whether the stock control would cope with real Posh traffic, and if it can cope with a crazy orphans update, it can cope with regular Sundays.

I’m going to go and take a breather now, but tomorrow I’m going to go through all the comments and feedback carefully, and I know Meg will too. Thank you, all of you, who have participated every step of the way, to help build and test this. Thank you for being such good friends. Thank you, everyone who didn’t get yarn tonight, for being such gracious……. I don’t want to say losers! You know what I mean!! You are a joy to work for. I love you all.

Okay folks, everything is looking good for tonight’s Orphan Update! 8pm, don’t forget. http://poshyarn.e-lys.com/shop

ETA: Sorry folks, the system just wouldn’t work right. We are having to postpone again until Wednesday at 8pm. So sorry to keep postponing, but on the plus side, you are giving the new system the battering it needed!

Argh, server problems, we have had to delay the orphans update by thirty minutes, so it will now be at 20.30. So sorry!!!!!

ETA: So sorry, everyone, the database server is still down. Since I think most people who want to participate are here, and you are all being so patient and supportive, we will give 9pm one last shot. If they haven’t fixed the problem by then, we will postpone to Monday night.

Okay folks, its not going to happen tonight. You know how sorry I am, Meg too.

We will postpone to Monday night. I will still send Sunday’s parcels out on Monday, but if you buy in both updates, it’s not right that you should pay postage twice, so I will cover your postage costs for the orphans package, and that will go out on Tuesday.

Thank you all for being so wonderful.

Thank you all so much for participating in our run of mock updates, testing the new shopping cart system. We’re ready for a real test now. On Saturday December 8th at 8pm, we will be holding an Orphans Update, using the new system. We’re holding it on Meg’s server for now, so you will need to use the address, http://poshyarn.e-lys.com/shop.

You may want to visit the page earlier in the day, both to check out the preview, and to register your details so that when it comes to shopping, you don’t have to enter your name, address, etc as you check out. This feature will be added to the preview page on Saturday at some point.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Orphan Updates, here’s what you need to know.

There won’t be any photos or colour descriptions with this update, as it’s a sort of lucky dip, but you will know what type of yarn you are buying (ie Catherine) and each skein will be reduced in price, by 10-15%. There is only 1 skein per colourway, so if you buy more than one skein in a yarn base, you will not get matching skeins.

Many of the skeins have been overdyed, so they are either dark or very saturated. But on the plus side, the colourways have that complexity and depth that you get from overdyed yarn. There are also a few lighter skeins that ended up as orphans for one reason or another……

We will be holding our normal Sunday update at 7pm on Sunday, and that is as usual on the Posh Yarn website. If you have bought yarn in the Orphans update, and you buy yarn in the Sunday update as well, make sure you select free post, so that you aren’t paying postage twice.

Orphan updates always test the system to its limits – there is so much demand, and a much smaller amount of yarn. Meg is fairly confident that the system will handle it, and I’m trying to believe her! But if there are issues, if yarn oversells, or there are any kind of technical hitches, please be patient with us. If anything goes wrong, I will spend Sunday afternoon unravelling it, such as if yarn oversells (each purchase has a time stamp, so we can work out from that who got the skeins first, if need be). But hopefully it will go smoothly, and you will enjoy the new shopping process!
